Welcome

Team Cygnus has developed a fully faired recumbent bicycle that can compete with the fastest recumbents in the world. The main goal is to use an optimum man-machine combination to break world records. The Cygnus team consists of technical specialists from various disciplines. Between them they have many years of experience with fully faired recumbents both in racing and in designing. All Cygnus team members are racers at the highest level. Every year they compete in national and international competitions such as Battle Mountain, the European Championship, the World Championship, and the Michigan Human Powered Speed Challenge, but they also attempt to break records on the tracks of RDW, DEKRA and Opel.

In the meantime

While part of team Cygnus was speeding around in Battle Mountain, Jan has been very busy with Cygnus Alpha. He has a number of ideas for speeding up his bike. He is thinking about using a 28" frontwheel instead of 26". Which requires, apart from a new wheel, a new axle, a new mid-drive and a new frame. And because Jan is our handy-man, he made the new axle and mid-drive all by himself.

Back from Battle Mountain

It is obvious that we are back from Battle Mountain. This is a time to look back on a great event, and especially thank the people that made all of this possible.
Thank all of the sponsors; please take a look at our sponsor page. Al and Alice Krause for organizing the event. Chris Broome and his crew fot their efforts at the start. Jun, Brad, Preston, Danny, Andrew, Jeff and Paul for the timing registration. The large group of catchers which were lead wonderfully by Barclay. Team Varna, and Mr. Wessels for his generous hospitality during the weekends we worked at the bike. And of course our team members that could not come along: Jan van Steeg, Pieter Pas, Hans Wessels and Arjen van Noordenne.

We will add our photos and movies to the Cygnus photo page in the coming weeks.

Battle Mountain - Our way home

We can sleep in on Sunday. The racing is done and we can have some rest before we pack everything up again. After all our personal luggage has been packed, we start to take the bike apart. When we get the bike out of its bag, we are surprised by the lettering on our bike. Our bike has been Mowetted! That was to be expected. We had our fun on Mike Mowetts bike three years ago, when we left our autograph by changing NORUS into NO-RUSH. And this year we had our fun with the Primal team bike. Now it's our turn and Larry Lem and Tom Amick did a great job. Well done, guys!

When everything has been packed we leave for Reno. We have a late lunch at Fuddruckers. We can travel on for a couple of hours on a good burger. Around seven in the evening we arrive in San Fransisco. The hotel had already been booked while we were on the road, so we can take up our room quickly. We get freshed up first and then we head to a restaurant around the corner for something to eat.

We have breakfast the next morning at IHOP and we check the car back in at the rental company. Then we take the light rail to the airport. Checking in is a breeze. They apparently have enough seats, so we can sit in a normal chair again. The flight is smooth and we arrive at Schiphol Airport nicely in time. But we are in for another surprise. After waiting for more than an hour it turns ou that David's bag and the bike were not on our flight. We fill in a number of forms and say goodbye to eachother for now. Battle Mountain 2013 is really over now.

Post Scriptum: David's bag and the bike have been delivered at the right address. Aparently they have been subjected to an extra search in San Francisco and missed our flight.
